Magh Mela 2024 | When is Mauni Amavasya? Snaan List
Magh Mela usually starts on the day of Makar Sankranti and continues for about 45 days till Mahashivratri. During this period, many important Snan Muhurtas are announced in advance so that devotees can take maximum advantage of these Snan Muhurtas. Magh Mela attracts a huge crowd of devotees from all over the country for whom the Uttar Pradesh government along with the tourism department makes all the arrangements.
When is Magh Mela organized?
In Prayagraj, Maha Kumbh is held after every 12 years, Ardh Kumbh after every 6 years and Magh Mela is held every year. This Magh Mela is organized at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj.
Magh Mela is also mentioned in Mahabharata and various ancient texts.
Many activities take place in Magh Mela like religious congregation by saints, types of worship programs, commercial activities by folk artists, sale and purchase of religious texts, bathing on special auspicious times etc.
Importance of Mauni Amavasya
It is believed that it was on this new moon day that Manu Rishi was born. It is because of humans that this Amavasya has come to be called Mauni Amavasya. According to another belief, God is worshiped by remaining silent on this day, hence it is named Mauni Amavasya.
This year, on 21 January 2023, a special bath of Mauni Amavasya was taken by lakhs of devotees.
